DEPARTMENT OF ECONOMICS

 The Department of Economics (dECON) at the Faculty of Social Sciences-University of the Republic is one of the leading research centers in Economics in Uruguay with more than 30 years of trajectory. dECON is responsible for the PhD program in Economics, the Master in Economics and different Diplomas and Certificates. At the undergraduate level,  we are in charge of different courses for students in Political Science, Sociology, Social Work and Development.  We promote academic excellence in theoretical and applied research with a direct impact in the quality of undergraduate and graduate courses. We encourage cooperative relationships with national institutions, as well as with foreign universities and research institutes, participating in different international networks.

What We Aim For?

The Master in Economics seeks to integrate a rigorous theoretical and empirical training with an approach to the main current economic issues. Training is provided in basic areas of economic knowledge, as well as in specific subjects of the discipline. The student is familiarized with research through seminars, courses and the thesis workshop. Our courses allows specialization in different areas according to the student's academic and professional goals. The Master program has allowed its graduates to occupy leadership positions in the private and public sectors, work professionally in multilateral entities, and pursue doctoral studies at recognized foreign universities.

Our program

The Master's program in Economics lasts for two years.
To obtain the Master's degree in Economics, it is required to pass a minimum of 110 credits. 80 credits correspond to academic activities and 30 to the thesis, which consists of an original research work, publishable as a working paper.
